Thank you for visiting the Bikers for Boobies KC page. Our ride is to raise awareness of breast cancer to ALL ages as well as raise funds to help support those diagnosed.
Every 3 minutes
Someone is diagnosed with breast cancer. These women AND men are all ages. The age of diagnosis is becoming younger and younger. No one is 'too young' for breast cancer. It is a diagnosis no one wants to hear. Each and every day, there are new warriors in the battle.
Our goal is to provide awareness, education, advocacy, and support to these warriors. It can make all the difference in their battle and recovery. Thank you for supporting our cause.
Bikers Raising Awareness and Support KC (B.R.A.S. KC)
Welcome to the Bikers for Boobies KCwebsite.
Bikers for Boobies and Bikers Raising Awareness and Support (B.R.A.S. KC) was started because every 3 minutes someone - male or female - is diagnosed with breast cancer, and I was one of those people. I wanted to give something back to the people who made my little “detour” in life an adventure, more of a positive experience than anyone would think it could be. I also wanted to bring the awareness and new knowledge I gained throught my experiences to as many people as I possibly could. Rather than a traditional support group, THIS was my therapy.
Breast Center at St Joseph Medical Center
My experiences with the entire staff at the Breast Center at St Joseph Medical Center have been nothing less than amazing. From my very first terrified appointment on October 1, 2009 for my biopsy, they were as comforting as a dear old friend would be, even though they just met me, and our friendship has only grown stronger. When my new friend and nurse navigator told me about some new navigation software that would enable her “wonder woman” efforts to help MORE patients just like me, I said, “Let me organize a bike run and raise some money to help buy that software. It’s the least I can do for you after all you’ve done for me.” And that’s how it all started.
Our first year, 2010, we had two and a half events. Bikers for Boobies in July has 105 bikes, almost 200 riders and we raised almost $7,000. The hospital’s Foundation members were blown away at our check presentation by the generosity of the biking community. But we weren’t finished just yet. We also had a second “fun run” in October, the Boooob Bash. We raised an additional $2,400 at that event.
The events also brought awareness and inspiration to another group as well as the bikers. My 9 year old daughter and her friend asked one day if they could hold a bake sale for the Bikers for Boobies to add to our donation to the hospital. What could it hurt, right? So with about a dozen of her friends in their “headlight” shirts and some moms baking cupcakes and cookies, the girls directing traffic their way, they raised $532.05. They are now known as the “Training B.R.A.S. KC”
In 2011, our numbers and donations continued to grow. We had 149 bikes with over 200 participants at our Summer Ride, an increase of 50%, even though it was a scorching 110 degrees that day. We donated $13,000 to the Breast Center in 2011. The "Training B.R.A.S." held their bake sale and raised $622.
Our group has been personally touched by this disease yet again with another new diagnosis. While our efforts raise funds to provide support, we also strive to raise awareness. EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES!!! PLEASE CHECK YOURSELVES REGULARLY-WOMEN AND MEN!
We hope you will join us in our efforts to raise awareness and bring support to as many people as possible who have been or will be affected by this disease.
